Myocardial Infarction, Old (Microscopic)

Myocardial Infarction, Old (Microscopic)

Microscopy of myocardium stained with H & E, with an old (over 4 weeks) infarction with fibrosis and some blood vessels, but with very few inflammatory cells.  The unaffected cardiomyocytes have normal nuclei and cross striations (sarcomeres) in the cytoplasm.

Note:  Robbins and Cotran shows the evolution of morphologic changes with myocardial infarctions very well.
